What a sitemap does
A sitemap is a file, usually /sitemap.xml, that lists the pages you want search engines to find. It helps them discover new pages sooner. It doesn’t guarantee a page gets listed, and it can’t fix a page that’s blocked or empty. Google’s sitemap guide covers the details.
Submit it in Search Console
Add a Sitemap: line with its full address to your robots.txt, then submit it in Google Search Console under Sitemaps. Search Console then shows how many of its pages Google has listed.
Common sitemap mistakes in AI-built apps
- Addresses on the builder’s preview domain instead of your own.
- Addresses starting with
http://instead ofhttps://. - Pages that need a login, which search engines can’t see anyway.
- No sitemap at all, because the app builds every page in the browser.
