When to use it
When Google Search Console’s URL Inspection says Excluded by ‘noindex’ tag or Blocked by robots.txt, or when a site:yourapp.com search shows nothing weeks after launch.
A noindex tag is often added while an app is being built, so unfinished pages don’t show up in search, and then nobody removes it. A robots.txt rule like Disallow: / does the same for the whole site.
What to check afterwards
- Open
yourapp.com/robots.txtin your browser. Public pages shouldn’t be listed underDisallow. - View the source of your homepage and search for
noindex. It shouldn’t be there. - Inspect the page again in Search Console and click Request indexing once.
Be careful with
Private pages, like dashboards, account settings and admin pages, should stay blocked. If the builder removes every rule, ask it to put those back. Also check whether your app is published as private in the builder’s settings. No prompt can fix that. It’s a switch you change yourself.
The full background is in our guide: Why your app isn’t showing on Google (and how to fix it).
